Having, like many of you, spent part of our youth there, we were a little apprehensive before we went. We wondered whether the magic of the place would still be there, or whether it too had been swept away by the evil hurricane… Not so.
Yes, the place has changed. Mother Nature having reclaimed her rights in the meantime, there’s (almost) no longer a beach where you can sip your Ti Punch with your feet in the sand (for the time being).
What you will find, however, is an elegantly decorated dining room. The once vivid colors have evolved into more pastel shades. Warm tones combine with wood to create a rustic, welcoming environment, inviting relaxation and conviviality.
It feels just as good as it used to.
And what else helps? Without a doubt, the cocktail menu. With a creativity and originality worthy of the best mixologists, each cocktail is a masterpiece: perfectly balanced and deliciously blended. A must for cocktail lovers.
The service team is exceptional. They are professionals who have mastered their craft and are brimming with contagious energy. Their passion is palpable in every interaction. It may seem like a small detail to some, but to us, being served by pros who go out of their way to make sure you have a good time with us, changes the whole experience you can have in a restaurant.
And the food? Still excellent. Admittedly, the menu has become a little more sophisticated over time, but you’ll still find the unforgettable flavours of the famous “New Wave Burger”, which the older among you will certainly remember.
Finally, the owner, Alex, hasn’t changed either. Always the same, he welcomes you with his usual smile and infectious good humor, making you feel “right at home”.
When we recently changed the cover photo on our Facebook page to a picture of the Calmos Café, an American follower commented: “Quintessential St. Martin”. We think this play on words perfectly captures the spirit of the place. Calmos embodies the very essence of our “Friendly Island”: a warm island, friends, laughter and delicious food… That’s the Calmos Café.
And believe us, it may have had a facelift, but its soul remains the same.
So, for those of you who haven’t been there before, we invite you to discover for yourselves.
And for those of you who’ve been here before, we invite you to rediscover this beautiful place, to soak up its new face while recalling fond memories of the past. Because we all have fond memories of Calmos. “C’est la vie” as we loved it and still do. With our feet in the sand, or not.
