Happy Bay is one of the few beaches in Saint-Martin that still feels genuinely quiet. Tucked between Friar’s Bay and the open Caribbean, it has no beach clubs, no vendors, and no rows of chairs — just a wide curve of pale sand, clear water, and the kind of calm you don’t find on the main beaches.
You don’t drive straight onto Happy Bay. Park near Friar’s Bay and follow the shaded trail over the headland. The walk is short (around 10 minutes), easy for most people, and often enough to keep the beach peaceful even in high season.
This is a bring-your-own beach. Many visitors come with water, a towel, and something simple to snack on — then stay longer than planned. Swimming is usually pleasant, and the rocky edges of the bay can be nice for light snorkeling when conditions are calm.
Happy Bay is sometimes clothing-optional, especially among regulars who come for the quiet and the freedom. It’s relaxed and discreet — not a “scene.” If it’s not your vibe, that’s completely fine; the beach is large enough for everyone to feel comfortable.
There are no services at Happy Bay, so bring what you need and take everything back with you. Wear proper shoes for the trail, and consider reef-safe sunscreen. If the sea is rough or the swell is up, skip snorkeling and enjoy the beach instead.
