Flights to St Maarten / St Martin
— Airlines, Routes & Insider Tips (2026)
I’ve been living in St Martin for 25 years, and I still remember the feeling of landing at SXM for the first time — the turquoise water visible from the window, the warm air hitting you the moment you step off the plane. Planning your flight well is the first step to a great trip.
Here’s everything you need to know to get here without stress.
Local booking note
Before you compare flights, choose the route that makes your arrival easier
For most travelers, the best flight to St Maarten is not always the absolute cheapest one. It is the one that lands early enough, gives you a realistic connection, and lets you reach your hotel, villa or rental car counter without starting the trip exhausted.
That matters here because SXM is a small but busy Caribbean airport. On peak Saturdays, several international flights can arrive close together, and the difference between landing at noon and landing late afternoon can completely change your first day on the island.
If prices are close, I usually recommend choosing the smoother route: fewer risky connections, a reasonable arrival time, and enough margin to collect luggage before driving to the French side, Simpson Bay, Cupecoy, Grand Case or Orient Bay.
Which airport should you fly into in St Maarten?
Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) — on the Dutch side — is the main gateway for all international visitors. Nearly every flight from the US, Canada, and Europe lands here. It’s also the airport famous for the low-flying planes over Maho Beach, if you want to tick that off your bucket list on arrival day.
Grand Case – Espérance Airport (SFG) — on the French side — is a small regional airport serving Caribbean island hops: Anguilla, St Barths, Guadeloupe. If you’re island-hopping or staying in Grand Case or Orient Bay, it can be useful for onward connections, but it won’t be your entry point from North America.
For 99% of travelers: fly into SXM.
Flights to St Maarten from the United States
The US has excellent connectivity to SXM, with nonstop options from multiple East Coast cities and connecting routes from just about everywhere else.
New York → SXM (~4 hours nonstop)
New York is one of the best-served gateways to St Maarten, with three airlines flying nonstop from JFK:
- JetBlue — the most frequent option, up to 16 nonstop flights per week from JFK. Departs from Terminal 5.
JetBlue flies direct to SXM from New York, Boston and Fort Lauderdale. → Check availability and book here - Delta — nonstop from JFK, around 7 flights per week. Terminal 4.
- American Airlines — seasonal nonstop from JFK. Terminal 8.
💡 JetBlue tends to offer the best value on this route and flies it year-round. Book early for holiday travel — this route fills up fast between December and April.
Miami → SXM (~3h15 nonstop)
- American Airlines — the only nonstop option from MIA, with up to 17 flights per week. If you’re connecting through Miami from anywhere in the Southeast or Latin America, this is a smooth route.
Atlanta → SXM (nonstop)
- Delta — year-round nonstop from ATL, one of the most reliable routes for travelers in the Southeast.
- Frontier — seasonal budget option from ATL.
Boston → SXM (nonstop)
- JetBlue — year-round nonstop from BOS. Great option for New England travelers.
Charlotte → SXM (nonstop)
- American Airlines — year-round nonstop from CLT. Charlotte is a major AA hub, making it a solid connection point if you’re flying from the Midwest or South.
Fort Lauderdale → SXM (nonstop)
- JetBlue — year-round nonstop from FLL.
- Spirit — budget option for cost-conscious travelers.
Other US Cities
From cities without nonstop service — Houston, Washington DC, Denver, Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles — you’ll typically connect through Miami (AA), Charlotte (AA), Atlanta (Delta), or New York (JetBlue/Delta). Travel time with one stop is usually 6–8 hours depending on the layover.
Flights to St Maarten from Canada
Canadian travelers have solid options, especially during the winter high season when demand peaks.
- Air Canada — from Toronto (YYZ) to SXM
- WestJet — seasonal service from Toronto (YYZ) and Montreal (YUL)
- Air Transat — from Toronto, often with competitive charter pricing for vacation packages
💡 Canadian flights to SXM are heavily seasonal. If you’re traveling in January or February, book 3–4 months in advance — these flights sell out. Off-season (May–October), you’ll find more flexibility and better prices.
Flights to St Maarten from Europe
Europe has a handful of direct routes to SXM, with Paris being by far the main gateway.
- Air France — year-round nonstop flights from Paris CDG to SXM. The most reliable option for European travelers, with good connections from across Europe through CDG.
- Air Caraïbes — seasonal flights from Paris Orly (ORY). Often a good alternative to Air France, especially for travelers from southern France.
- KLM — seasonal nonstop from Amsterdam (AMS). Good option for travelers from the Netherlands and northern Europe.
💡 From Paris, the flight time is approximately 8h30. Air France offers the most consistent schedule year-round. Air Caraïbes tends to be more affordable but operates mainly in high season.
Best Time to Book Flights to St Maarten
High season (December – April): This is when St Martin is at its best — dry, sunny, and warm. It’s also when flights are most expensive and fill up fastest. Book 3–6 months in advance if you’re traveling during Christmas, New Year’s, or spring break.
Shoulder season (May, November): Pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and noticeably lower fares. A great window if your schedule allows flexibility.
Low season (June – October): Hurricane season. Prices are lowest, but some properties and restaurants close. The island is quieter and some weeks bring heavy rain. Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
💡 From my experience living here: the sweet spot is late January through March. The weather is perfect, the island is lively, and while prices are high, you’re getting St Martin at its absolute best.
Travel Tips Before You Book
Compare departure dates. Even shifting by one or two days can make a meaningful difference in price, especially around US holidays.
Watch your baggage. Budget carriers like Spirit and Frontier can look cheap until you add a checked bag. Always compare the total price including luggage before booking.
Arrive before 2pm if you can. Landing earlier gives you time to pick up your rental car, check in, and settle before sunset. Trust me — arriving at SXM in the late afternoon, rushing to your villa in the dark, is not how you want to start your vacation.
Book your rental car early. SXM has limited inventory and cars go fast in high season. If you land without a reservation, you may be stuck.
What If Your Flight Is Delayed or Cancelled?
Connections to SXM often go through major US hubs — Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York — and delays happen. If your flight is disrupted, you may be entitled to compensation depending on the airline and the circumstances.
AirAdvisor handles flight compensation claims on your behalf — if your flight was delayed by more than 3 hours, cancelled, or overbooked, they’ll assess your case and claim what you’re owed.
Where to Stay After You Land
Once your flight is booked, the next step is accommodation. St Martin has something for every style of travel:
- Vacation rentals & villas — the most popular option for couples, families, and groups. Private pools, ocean views, and the freedom to come and go as you please. Browse our selection: bookstmartin.com/stays/
- Hotels & guesthouses — from boutique beachfront properties to laid-back guesthouses. See our guide: bookstmartin.com/hotels/
- VRBO — for a wider selection of vacation rentals across the island. Browse on VRBO
And don’t forget: renting a car is strongly recommended. The island is small but spread out, and having your own wheels makes everything easier — from beach-hopping to finding that hidden restaurant in Grand Case.
