We live five minutes away. Have for 25 years.
And honestly? It still gets us every time.
Two kilometers of white sand, turquoise water so clear you can see the bottom from the shore, and beach clubs that do long lunches better than most restaurants in Paris.
Orient Bay is the kind of place where you arrive for a morning swim and realize at 6pm you never left the beach.
It’s the most complete beach experience on the French side — beautiful, lively, and genuinely fun. First-timers always end up here. Regulars always come back.
There’s a reason for that.
Orient Bay is busy. Especially December through April.
That’s not a warning — it’s just useful to know before you arrive. The beach fills up, the beach clubs get lively, and the village hums with people from morning to evening. That energy is part of what makes it special.
But Orient Bay is also bigger than it looks on a map. Two kilometers of beach means you can always find your spot. The northern end near the village is where most of the action is — beach clubs, restaurants, water sports. Walk ten minutes south and it gets noticeably quieter.
What a typical day looks like here: Morning swim before 9am — the beach is almost empty and the light is extraordinary. Settle into a beach club by mid-morning. Long lunch. Afternoon in the water or on a lounger. Sunset drink at Bikini Beach or Kontiki. Dinner in the village.
Repeat until you have to leave.
One thing we always tell people: bring a car. Orient Bay is easy to walk within, but the rest of the island — Grand Case, Marigot, the beaches further north — all require wheels. Don’t rely on taxis.

Right on the beach. The team makes all the difference.
We know this hotel well — it’s been part of Orient Bay’s landscape for years, and it keeps getting it right. Right on the beach, the kind of place where you drop your bags and immediately feel like you’ve arrived.
What makes it work isn’t just the location — it’s the team. There’s a warmth here that’s rare. Guests feel it, which is probably why so many of them come back season after season. The return guest rate speaks for itself.
Breakfast included, beach in ten seconds, restaurants within walking distance. Everything you need, nothing you don’t.
The one thing that sets it apart: That team. Genuinely one of the most welcoming in St Martin.
Best for: First-timers in Orient Bay who want the full experience — and anyone who already knows this hotel and keeps coming back.

Right on Orient Bay. Order the sushis.
La Playa sits directly on the beach — same stretch as Orient Beach Hotel, slightly different vibe. A little more stylish, a touch more relaxed. Spacious rooms, private balconies, most with a real ocean view.
The beach restaurant is the hidden gem here. Fresh seafood, and sushis that are genuinely good — not beach-bar good, just good. It’s the kind of lunch spot you don’t want to leave.
Loungers set up on the sand every morning. Orient Bay Village five minutes on foot for the evenings.
Best for: Couples who want a stylish beachfront stay with great food on-site — and a beach view they won’t forget.

A quiet retreat — one minute from the beach
Palm Court sits just back from the beach — not directly on the sand, but one minute on foot, which in practice changes nothing about your day. What it does change is the atmosphere. It’s noticeably calmer here than at the beachfront hotels. Less movement, more space, a slower rhythm.
The property has a residence feel — spacious suites, terraces, a well-kept pool area. And the Ti Palm restaurant on-site is genuinely worth knowing about. Good food, relaxed setting, no need to go out every night if you don’t feel like it.
The one thing that sets it apart: That calm. You’re in Orient Bay, steps from everything — but you sleep without the beach noise.
Best for: Travelers who want to be in the heart of Orient Bay but prefer a quieter, more residential atmosphere. And anyone who appreciates a good restaurant without leaving the property.

Creole bungalows in a tropical garden, on the hillside above Orient Bay.
La Plantation has a distinctly Caribbean feel that the beachfront hotels don’t quite capture. The bungalows are built in Creole style, spread through a tropical garden on the heights above Orient Bay. It’s lush, quiet, and genuinely beautiful in the way that only older Caribbean properties can be.
You’re a short drive from the beach rather than a walk — so it suits travelers who are happy to have a car and want a bit of elevation and calm to come back to at the end of the day.
The one thing that sets it apart: That Creole character. If you want to feel like you’re in the Caribbean rather than at a beach resort, La Plantation delivers that.
Best for: Travelers who appreciate Caribbean architecture, nature, and a quieter setting — with Orient Bay close enough to enjoy easily.

Private pool bungalows in a tropical garden. And one of the best restaurants in Orient Bay.
Esmeralda Resort has a character of its own. Instead of a traditional hotel layout, the property is a collection of luxury bungalows scattered through a lush tropical garden — each with its own private pool. It feels more like a private estate than a resort.
The beach is steps away, but once you’re back inside the property, you feel completely removed from it all.
And then there’s L’Astrolabe, the on-site restaurant. Genuinely one of the best places to eat in Orient Bay — not just “good for a hotel restaurant”, just good. Worth a dinner even if you’re not staying here.
The one thing that sets it apart: Private pool bungalows in a tropical garden, with one of Orient Bay’s best restaurants right on-site.
Best for: Couples looking for privacy, luxury, and a beautiful setting without sacrificing beach access.
Hotels are great for simplicity. But if you’re traveling with family, a group of friends, or simply want more space and your own kitchen — a villa or condo in Orient Bay changes the whole experience. Many are steps from the beach, with private pools and terraces that no hotel room can match.
Orient Bay has around fifteen restaurants within walking distance — from toes-in-the-sand beach clubs to refined evening tables in the village.
A few we always mention :
For lunch on the beach → Bikini Beach, Kontiki, KKO — pick your vibe and settle in for the afternoon.
For dinner → L’Astrolabe for French gastronomy, SAO for Asian fusion, La Favela if you want energy and cocktails.
Already staying at Palm Court or La Plantation? Ti Palm and Le Sud are both genuinely good — no need to go out every night.
The beach takes care of most of your day. But when you’re ready to explore a little further, here are three things worth knowing about.
🪂 Parasailing over Orient Bay The best way to see the beach from above — and understand just how beautiful this coastline really is. The boat departs directly from Orient Bay. Ten to fifteen minutes in the air, spectacular views, back on the sand before lunch. Book here →
🚣 Kayak at Pinel Island — Cul de Sac Ten minutes by car from Orient Bay, Cul de Sac is where you take the little ferry to Pinel Island — one of the most beautiful spots on the French side. Kayaking around the island in that turquoise water is genuinely hard to beat. Book here →
Orient Bay itself is completely walkable — beach, restaurants, village, all on foot. You won’t need a car for your first day.
But the rest of the island is a different story. Grand Case is 20 minutes away. Marigot, the airport, the Dutch side — none of it is walkable. If you want to explore beyond Orient Bay, a rental car is the obvious answer.
High season runs December through April. The weather is perfect — warm, dry, breezy — and the beach is at its most lively. It’s also when everything fills up fastest. Hotels book out months in advance, beach clubs get busy by mid-morning, and prices are at their highest.
If you can be flexible, May and November are the sweet spot. The crowds thin out, prices drop, and Orient Bay is still beautiful. The water is warm, the restaurants are open, and you’ll have more of the beach to yourself.
July and August bring the French summer crowd — families mostly, a different energy from the winter season. Busy but fun.
One thing we always say: whenever you’re coming, book your hotel early. Orient Bay has a limited number of good properties, and the best ones go first — regardless of the season.

I've been living on this island for 25 years. I know which beach is empty on a Tuesday morning, which restaurant in Grand Case is worth the wait, and exactly why you should never book the first car rental counter you see at the airport.
It started with food — SXM Epicure Club, a culinary blog I ran on Facebook for years, connecting locals and visitors around the best tables on the island. Over time it became something bigger.
BookStMartin was born from the same idea : connecting people with the real St. Martin. Not the brochure version. The one we actually live in.
