Uber does not operate in St Maarten. Neither does Lyft, Bolt, or any other ride-sharing app — on either the French or Dutch side of the island. This isn’t temporary. The island has deliberately kept ride-sharing apps out to protect local taxi drivers. It’s not changing anytime soon.
If you were counting on Uber to get around, you’ll need a different plan.
Taxis exist — and at SXM Airport they work fine with fixed government rates.
But outside the airport, it gets complicated. No meter, no app, no transparent pricing. You negotiate the price before you get in. For visitors who don’t know local rates, this is uncomfortable. And if you plan to explore beaches, restaurants and both sides of the island — the costs add up fast.
A taxi from Orient Bay to Grand Case runs $20-25 one way. Do that a few times a day and you’ve spent more than a week’s car rental in 2-3 days.
As locals on St. Martin, we recommend comparing car rental deals with DiscoverCars.com. They hold a strong 4.6/5 rating on Trustpilot from over 261,000 verified reviews, with more than 92% customer satisfaction.
We particularly appreciate their transparent pricing, clear insurance options, and free cancellation policy.
Pro tip from us: Reserve early for the best rates, especially in peak season.

all perfect
Good value, better price offered than other csr rental outlets. Smooth experience with Budget. I will be checking out DiscoverCars again for future trips.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
